Maypurl FAQ

Plain answers to the questions we get most. If yours is not here, email us.

Pricing and billing

  1. How much does Maypurl cost?

Subscription is $79 per month or $699 per year (a 26% saving). The subscription includes 8 voice rounds, 1 Dossier, and 30 Morning Reps per month. There are also weekly mini-passes for people not ready to commit: $25 for 3 voice rounds, $79 for 1 Dossier, $7 for 7 daily Morning Reps. Pause anytime, no trick clauses, no auto-conversion from trial.

  2. Is there a free trial?

Yes. Your first voice round is free, no card required, no auto-conversion. It is a real 10-minute round with real scoring and real feedback. You will see a Dossier preview and your dimension breakdown. If you want more, you subscribe. If not, you keep the score and the breakdown.

  3. Can I pause my subscription?

Yes, anytime, in your account. Pausing means no charges, no new rounds, no new Dossier or Morning Reps until you resume. Your past rounds, scores, and Dossiers stay accessible while paused. We also auto-pause subscriptions after 14 days of inactivity, so you do not get charged for a month you did not use.

  4. What happens if I get a job mid-month?

Cancel or pause in your account. We do not pro-rate refunds for the current month, but we also do not bill the next month after cancellation. If you got an offer, congratulations. If you want to send us the company you signed with so we can sharpen our cohort calibration, we would value the data, but you do not owe us anything.

  5. Can I get a refund?

Yes, within the first 14 days of your first subscription if you have not generated a Dossier. After that, no scheduled refunds, but if something is wrong reply to our support email and we will look at it. The Dossier is the high-cost item we cannot recover, which is why it is the threshold.

  6. Is there an annual plan?

Yes. $699 per year, billed once. That is a 26% saving versus monthly. The annual plan is best for people who expect their job search to take 4 or more months. If you are not sure, start monthly. You can switch to annual anytime.

  7. What are the weekly mini-passes?

Mini-passes are for people who need a specific thing without committing to a subscription. $25 buys 3 voice rounds, $79 buys 1 Dossier, $7 buys 7 daily Morning Reps. Mini-passes are not a discount on the subscription. They are a different shape for a different customer.

  8. What is the difference between the subscription and pay-as-you-go?

Subscription is for people in an active job search. Mini-passes are for people preparing for a specific upcoming interview, or testing the product before committing, or coming back for a single Dossier update after a break. The math favors subscription if you are doing more than 4 voice rounds a month.

  9. Why are overage charges so high?

Because they are designed to be rare, not normal. Voice rounds cost us real money in API time. If you are hitting the cap regularly, the subscription is no longer the right shape for your usage. Email us and we will figure out the right thing.

  10. Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. In your account. No phone calls, no "wait don't go" flow, no retention specialist. Click the cancel button, it cancels. You keep access until the end of your current paid period.

  11. Will I be auto-charged after the free round?

No. The free first round does not require a card and does not convert. You will only be charged when you affirmatively subscribe.

  12. What happens after 14 days of inactivity?

Your subscription pauses automatically. No charge until you resume. We do this on purpose because billing you for a month you did not use is a bad business and a worse trust signal. Resume anytime in your account.

  13. Can I share my subscription?

No, and we ask you not to try. The Dossier and scoring are personalized to one candidate's history. Sharing produces a worse experience for both people because the scoring drifts. If two people in your household are job-searching, email us. We will work out a fair price.

  14. Do you offer student discounts?

Not currently. If you are a graduate student or in a bootcamp, email us with your program details. We will consider a one-off discount where it makes sense. Site licenses for schools and bootcamps are coming later in 2026.

  15. Do you offer team or company plans?

Not yet. We are in conversations with outplacement firms, bootcamps, and a small number of university career centers for fall 2026. If you are at one of those, email us. For individual employees at a company that wants to expense Maypurl, an individual subscription works fine and most receipts go through expense systems.

  16. What currencies do you accept?

Stripe handles currency conversion. You pay in your local currency at the prevailing rate, with the price displayed at checkout in USD reference. If you have a billing question specific to your country, email us.

The product

  1. What are the four round types?

The Probe (résumé interrogation, 15–20 minutes), The Crucible (stress test of a single hard scenario, 25–30 minutes), Morning Reps (a 5-minute daily audio drill), and the Dossier (a 30-page intelligence pack on you against the cohort). Each one targets a different skill. Most customers rotate.

  2. What is the Dossier?

A 30-page personalized document generated after your first 3 voice rounds. It includes role-specific likely questions for your target companies, your strongest stories rewritten into clean STAR form, recruiter and hiring manager perspective notes, sector-specific tailoring (Anthropic culture, Notion culture, etc.), a deep-dive on your target level, and a 7-day focus plan. Most customers say this is what made it click.

  3. What are Morning Reps?

Five-minute audio drills designed for daily use. They build the verbal muscle that interview rounds test. The format is a short prompt, your 60–90 second answer, instant feedback on the dimensions you scored lowest on, and one specific note to carry into your next round.

  4. How long is a voice round?

The Probe is about 15–20 minutes. The Crucible is 25–30 minutes. The free trial round is 10 minutes. You can stop early; the round saves what you completed.

  5. Is the AI actually good?

Honestly, the voice round experience is built on OpenAI's Realtime API with a model trained for natural conversation, and the scoring layer uses Anthropic's Claude. The combination is significantly better than the chatbot-style interview prep tools that existed even 18 months ago. It is not a human coach. It does not have a human's intuition for nuance. It is calibrated, consistent, available at midnight, and roughly 1% the cost of a human coach.

  6. Can I pick what kind of interview to practice?

Yes. Voice rounds let you choose technical depth, system design, behavioral, or résumé-walk-through. You also specify your target role, target level, and target companies. The AI tailors questions accordingly.

  7. What is the scoring rubric?

Five dimensions: Technical, Communication, Structure, Confidence, Scalability. Each is scored 0–100. You get the score, the reasoning behind the score, and a specific note on what would move the score up. The score is calibrated against benchmark rubrics drawn from public hiring standards.

  8. What does "cohort-calibrated" mean?

It means your score is positioned against a benchmark of what good looks like at your target role and level, drawn from public hiring rubrics, published interview guides, and the patterns we observe across our user base. It is not a claim about specific real-world hires. As we accumulate outcome data over the next 12 months, the calibration will become more direct. We will tell you when that happens.

  9. How accurate is the scoring?

Accurate in the way a careful judge is accurate, not in the way a thermometer is accurate. The scoring is consistent (same answer gets roughly the same score every time), calibrated (the score corresponds to a defensible bar), and explained (we tell you exactly why). It is not perfect. Two human judges scoring the same answer would also disagree by a few points. We are in that range.

  10. Can I retake a round?

Yes. You can retake any round as many times as you want within your monthly cap. Retaking the same prompt is a useful practice tool because you can compare scores across attempts and see the work compounding.

  11. Will I get the same questions every time?

No. The AI varies the question set based on your target role, your past rounds, and what dimensions you are working on. If you took The Probe focused on Stripe roles last week and take it again this week, the questions will overlap thematically but differ specifically.

  12. Does the AI know my résumé and target company?

Yes, if you give it both. The onboarding asks for your résumé, your target role and level, and the companies you are interviewing for. The voice round and Dossier are personalized accordingly. If you skip the résumé, the AI will work from what it learns in conversation.

  13. Can the AI mimic a specific company's interview style?

Approximately, yes. The AI is trained on public interview information about major tech companies and tailors prompts to known styles. It will not be a perfect replica of any specific company's actual interview. It is the closest approximation publicly available.

  14. What if the AI gets a technical answer wrong?

Tell us. The AI is well-calibrated on senior engineering content but it is not infallible. If you encounter a technical claim that is wrong, reply to your post-round email and include the prompt and the AI's response. We review every report. Material errors are corrected in the rubric within a week.

  15. Is this only for FAANG candidates?

No. Maypurl is built for senior tech candidates across the spectrum of high-bar companies: FAANG, AI labs, Series A through D startups, and equivalent product organizations. The scoring scales by target level and target company. A senior at a 30-person Series A is not interviewed the same way as a senior at Meta, and we adjust accordingly.

  16. Is this for non-engineers?

Currently we are focused on engineering roles. PM and Designer rounds are on the roadmap but not yet shipped. If you are a non-engineer and want to try, the behavioral and Crucible rounds will still produce useful signal. The technical scoring will not.

  17. Can I use this for promotion interviews and internal moves?

Yes, and the use case is underrated. Promo committees and staff-track interviews are exactly the kind of high-stakes evaluation Maypurl was built for. Tell the onboarding what you are preparing for and we will tailor the questions.

  18. Will Maypurl get me the job?

No. Maypurl gets you calibrated, prepared, and clear about your gaps. The offer is downstream of work nobody else can do for you: the actual interview, the actual work history, the actual fit. We are not in the offer-guaranteeing business. We are in the truth-telling business.

Privacy and data

  1. Do you record my voice?

Yes, during voice rounds. The recording is used to produce the transcript and the scoring. Recordings are stored encrypted at rest. You can request immediate deletion of any recording in your account.

  2. Where are recordings stored?

In encrypted object storage. Audio recordings, transcripts, and scoring data are stored separately with different access controls. We will publish full technical and geographic details in our data policy at launch.

  3. Can I delete my recordings?

Yes. In your account under data settings, you can delete any individual recording or all recordings at once. Deletion is permanent and propagates to backups within 30 days.

  4. Do you train AI models on my data?

We do not currently train any AI model on customer voice or content data. We use AI providers (OpenAI for voice, Anthropic for scoring) under their enterprise data terms, which means our customer data is not used to train their models either. If we ever change this, you will be notified, you will be able to opt out, and the opt-out will be the default for new accounts.

  5. Do you share my data with anyone?

We share data only with the AI providers that make the product work (OpenAI for the voice connection, Anthropic for scoring, our transcription provider, our hosting and database providers). Each is under a data processing agreement that restricts their use of your data to the service they provide to us. We do not sell data and we do not share with third-party marketers.

  6. Is my data sent to OpenAI or Anthropic?

Yes. The voice round runs over OpenAI's Realtime API; the audio and the AI's responses pass through OpenAI's systems for the duration of the call. Scoring uses Anthropic's Claude, which processes the transcript. Both providers operate under enterprise data terms with us. Both deletion and zero-retention modes apply where the provider supports them.

  7. Are you SOC 2 compliant?

Not yet. We are a small team and we are working toward SOC 2 Type I in the next 12 months. If you need a security questionnaire answered for an enterprise procurement process, email us and we will share what we have.

  8. Where is my data stored geographically?

Primary storage is in a region selected for low latency and provider quality, with backups in a separate region for disaster recovery. We will publish full geographic detail in the data policy at launch and will offer region selection for enterprise customers in 2027.

  9. What happens to my data if I cancel?

You can export your data anytime. After cancellation, your data is retained for 12 months in case you return, then automatically deleted unless you have requested immediate deletion. You can request deletion at any point during the retention window.

  10. Can I export my data?

Yes. You can export your voice round transcripts, scoring history, and Dossier in JSON or PDF format from your account. Audio file export is also available on request.

  11. Are you GDPR compliant?

We are working toward full GDPR compliance and we already honor the core rights: access, deletion, portability, rectification. If you are an EU resident with a specific data request, email our support and we will handle it within 30 days as required.

  12. Are you HIPAA compliant?

No. Maypurl is not a healthcare service and is not designed to handle protected health information. Do not share medical information in a voice round; if you do, request deletion and we will remove the content.

Technical

  1. What browsers are supported?

Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari, current versions. Voice rounds work best on Chrome and Edge. If your browser is more than two versions out of date, some features may not work.

  2. Do I need to install anything?

No. Maypurl runs in the browser. You will need to grant microphone permission once for voice rounds, and that permission stays until you revoke it.

  3. Do I need a microphone?

Yes. Any reasonable laptop or phone microphone works. A wired or Bluetooth headset improves audio quality and scoring accuracy noticeably. AirPods or equivalent are fine. Built-in laptop mics work but echo can degrade the experience.

  4. What happens if my microphone does not work?

The round will pause and offer a fallback flow. You can test your microphone in the pre-round screen before starting. If your microphone fails mid-round, the round is saved as a partial and you can retry without consuming an additional credit.

  5. What internet speed do I need?

A stable connection above 2 Mbps upload and download is recommended. Voice rounds are real-time, so latency matters more than bandwidth. Cellular hotspots work but a wired connection or strong Wi-Fi is more reliable.

  6. Is there a mobile app?

Not yet. The web app works on mobile browsers. A native mobile app is on the roadmap for late 2026 or early 2027, prioritized after we have more usage data on whether mobile use justifies the build.

  7. Can I use this on my phone?

Yes, voice rounds work in mobile Safari and Chrome. The Dossier reads better on a larger screen because of the layout, but you can read it on mobile.

  8. What languages does the AI speak?

English. Other languages are on the roadmap but not committed to a date. If you are a non-native English speaker preparing for English-language interviews, the AI does not penalize accent and will work normally.

Edge cases and policies

  1. What if the AI says something offensive or wrong?

Tell us. We take it seriously. Reply to your post-round email with the prompt, the AI response, and what was wrong. We review every report. The AI is not infallible and the safety layer is not perfect. Your reports make the next person's experience better.

  2. What if I have a disability that affects my speech?

The AI is reasonably patient with pauses, stuttering, and pace. If you have a specific need that affects how you should be evaluated, email us before you start. We will adjust the scoring weighting or the format to fit. We will not refuse service for an accessibility reason.

  3. What if I am a non-native English speaker?

The AI does not score accent. It scores content, structure, and clarity of expression. Non-native speakers consistently score in the same range as native speakers in our data. If you are interviewing in English for a North American company, that is the right English to practice with.

  4. What if I have an interview tomorrow?

Run one voice round tonight in the round type closest to your interview format, read the score breakdown carefully, run one Morning Rep in the morning targeting your weakest dimension. That is the maximum useful work in 24 hours. The Dossier requires 3 rounds before it generates, so for tomorrow it is not in scope. Schedule the Dossier for next week.

  5. Can I get a human coach instead of the AI?

Not through Maypurl directly. The product is built on the premise that AI can do calibration that humans cannot afford to do at this price. If you want a human coach for behavioral or executive-level interviews, you can find them elsewhere; we are not the right tool for that.

  6. What if my current employer finds out I am using this?

We do not contact employers and we do not advertise on platforms where your current employer would see your name. Your usage is private. We do not have an employer-facing product, period.

  7. Can I bring this to my current employer for promotion or staff-track interviews?

Yes, and it is one of the most underused cases. Internal promotion interviews are high-stakes and under-prepared. The same rounds work. Tell the onboarding what you are interviewing for and the AI tailors accordingly.

  8. Who is the founder?

Maypurl is built by a solo founder with a background in software engineering. The product exists because the founder went through too many interviews where the feedback was vague, late, or absent, and decided to build the calibration tool that should have existed. The "about" page has more detail.

  9. Where is Maypurl based?

Maypurl is registered in India. We serve customers globally and most of our customer base is in North America. The product is hosted on global infrastructure. If you have a question about Indian entity tax invoicing or any cross-border concern, email us.

  10. How do I contact support?

Reply to any email from us, or email `hello@maypurl.com` directly. A human reads every message within 24 hours during the work week. For payment or account issues, include your email address on file so we can find your account.
